How does IB Stack Up Against AP or CEP for College Credit

International Baccalaureate (IB) is a great way for students to earn college credit while still in high school. Since the IB is recognized internationally, students can get college credit across the globe. Many Diploma Programme (DP) students are able to enter post-secondary education as a sophomore, saving families an extensive amount of money. One semester at an in-state university can cost over $10,000, and students planning on going to private or out of state universities can plan on seeing even larger savings. Students can pair IB, CEP, and AP classes together college credit as long as they do not overlap subject areas.

How is International Baccalaureate similar to Advanced Placement

  • Standardized examinations are taken to determine college credits.

  • Can help families save tuition at college/university.

    • One semester at a state school is over $5,000 dollars plus living expenses!
    • Private colleges cost up to $30,000 plus living expenses per semester!
  • Students completing IB courses may also take AP tests.

How is International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) different from Advanced Placement (AP) or individual IB classes?
