Day of Silence, April 22nd, is a national student-led demonstration day. LGBTQ students and allies all around the country—and the world—take a vow of silence to protest the harmful effects of harassment and discrimination of LGBTQ people in schools.
Started in the mid 90’s by two college students, Day of Silence has expanded to reach hundreds of thousands of students each year. Every April, students go through the school day without speaking, ending the day with Breaking the Silence rallies and events to share their experiences and bring attention to ways their schools and communities can become more inclusive.
Here at West, students may choose to demonstrate by taking vows of silence for the day, wearing pins, buttons, or temporary tattoos. Many are sharing their reasons for taking the vow on sticky notes, card templates and social media. Some GSA students are organizing opportunities for students to join 'Break the Silence' events after school.

If you need help completing scholarships, a scholarship workshop is being held all day on Monday, April 25th in the LMC. Sign up in Student Services.
