February is Black History Month: students can learn more about Black History Month by watching the TVs in the hallways for important facts regarding the contributions of black Americans on our society.

Procedures
There will be a “reset” at semester for loaner Chromebooks, meaning students on the “no loaner” list will be given three additional chances to return them the same day.
BRING YOUR CHROMEBOOK TO SCHOOL! We only have 20 loaner chromebooks.
If you have lost or broken your own device that was issued, please see the LMC so we can work on getting you a replacement. After 3X keeping loaner chromebooks overnight, students will be placed on a no loaner list and teachers will have to request a loaner for the hour.

Student food deliveries have gotten a little out of hand.  Food deliveries should only take place during your lunch period. Deliveries should only be made at Door 9, where students will need to go outside to pick up their order and can then bring it back in to eat. Delivers will NOT be accepted at the main entrance.

Students should get into the habit of checking their attendance in IC at least once per week to verify they were marked correctly.  They should also be checking email daily.

Clubs/Groups/Meetings
GSA will meet on Tuesday, February 13th, after school in room 117. Please see Jill in 127 or Mr. Grisby in 117 with any questions.

The Newspaper group wants your opinions about Valentine’s Day.  Students should complete the survey at: https://bit.ly/v-day-news by February 14th.

College/Career Exploration
Northeast Wisconsin Youth Apprenticeship is having an event at NWTC on Monday, February 5th for Sophomores and Juniors to learn more about the Youth Apprenticeship program.  Parents are encouraged to attend with their students.  Register at: https://www.nwtc.edu/events/2024/02/Youth-Apprenticeship-Night

Attention Seniors: If you are attending technical school, college or any other paid schooling after high school, we are offering a scholarship workshop day on Thursday, February 8th during advisory and through 4th hour in the LMC.  Many scholarships are posted in the Sensational Seniors Google Classroom for you to view as well.  Our special event will go over the process to apply for many local scholarships and Green Bay West’s own scholarships.  We hope you will attend!

NWTC Engineering Open House will be on Tuesday, February 20th, from 4-7 pm. This is for students interested in math, science or technology. No registration is necessary, you can just stop by that evening. See Ms. Sternig in room 219 if you are interested.

Sophomores, Junior and Seniors: If you are considering a branch of the military after graduation or the National Guard, you will take a placement test called the ASVAB to help determine career paths and the branch to join as well as other things.  We are offering the ASVAB here at West High School on Tuesday, February 20th starting at 7:30 AM.  Please stop in room 219 (the Career Center) or student services to sign up to take the exam and we will schedule you for testing.  You can also email [email protected] to sign up or ask any questions you may have.

If you are interested in anything that relates to education or human services for a career someday, we are taking a field trip to NWTC and UWGB to explore the education needed to work in those fields.  Date: Wednesday, February 28th.  These field trips are helpful because they allow you to see both NWTC and UWGB campuses as well as do some hands- on work in different classrooms.  It's fun and we learn something!  Stop in the career center, Room 219 or email [email protected] to sign up with Liz for this field trip.
