Important Dates
We All Rise is hosting a Juneteenth contest. In celebration of Juneteenth, middle school and high school students are invited to showcase their artistic talent by participating in the Juneteenth Design Contest. This is an exciting opportunity to express your creativity, celebrate the spirit of Juneteenth, and contribute to a meaningful cause. The winning high school design will be featured on a t-shirt. Theme: "Black Men as Caregivers"  Submission Deadline: March 1, 2024. Learn more at: bit.ly/Juneteenth-Contest

We will be having a Blood Drive on Wednesday, March 6th in the Old Gym. Students 16 years of age or older will be allowed to donate. To make an appointment, scan the QR code in announcements or stop by room 109.

Seniors have the opportunity to design the cover of the graduation program for the class of 2024. The design could be inspired by the Senior quote: “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened,” by Dr. Seuss, or they can create something unique. Seniors should check their email for cover requirements, and see Student Services with any questions.

Athletics
The Track Team will be meeting tomorrow (Feb 27), from 3:05 to 3:30 in the Thune Center.  We will introduce the coaches at this meeting.

Softball is making the most of the nice weather and will be having an open gym tomorrow (Feb 27) from 3:30-5:30 at Riverview Park. See Coach Guenther in 234 if you have any questions.

Clubs/Groups/Meetings
Congratulations to the following West students who earned Silver Medals at the FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America) Regional Competition. Izabellah Markovic, for the Interior Design Event. Nathan Christnot, for Pastries and Baked Goods.

The LMC is hosting March Book Madness, department vs Department. Each West High department has nominated a book. Every Monday and Wednesday, students and staff should vote during Advisory between two books.  The Book Brackets are posted in the Library Windows.All staff and students should vote today at https://bit.ly/Books-Feb-26

The Chess Club is still meeting every Wednesday after school in the Old Library! Please come and join us to play chess and practice for the upcoming competition over Spring Break. We will be meeting every Wednesday from 3-4pm in the Old Library. Please see Jill in 127 with any questions. 

Vote for Superlatives! Who is the most athletic? Most likely to be asleep in class? Best bromance?  Check your email for the Google Form to vote on these questions and more for the yearbook. The email was sent on February 7th. See Jill in room 127 with any questions.

College/Career Exploration
Seniors: If you’re considering going into the workforce right after high school, consider attending the NWTC Career Fair.  The  career fair will be held at NWTC on Tuesday, February 27, from 10 am to 1 pm. Email Liz at [email protected] to request the registration link. 
NOTE: This is NOT a school event and transportation will not be provided; you would need to secure your own transportation and be excused by a parent.

Seniors: Georgia Pacific is hosting a hiring event on Wednesday, February 28th, daytime and evening!  If you plan to work after high school, this is a great place to start your career.  Please stop in room 219 or email [email protected] to ask more about this and how to prepare.  Georgia Pacific has many openings and is eager to hire new West graduates.  

If you are interested in anything that relates to education or human services for a career someday, we are taking a field trip to NWTC and UWGB to explore the education needed to work in those fields.  The trips will be on Wednesday, February 28th.  These field trips are helpful because they allow you to see both NWTC and UWGB campuses as well as do some hands- on work in different classrooms.  It's fun and we learn something!  Stop in the career center, Room 219 or email [email protected] to sign up with Liz for this field trip.

Seniors: IMPORTANT MESSAGE If you are planning on college or technical school after graduation, but have not started applying, please reach out to Liz in room 219 or email [email protected] about this.   If you have not completed your FAFSA for school, we can help you in the career center, please stop in or reach out.  The FAFSA helps you with college, it's important!  If you are interested in scholarships, ALL the information is located in the google classroom, please use it and apply. There is a lot out there, but you have to apply!  

Students interested in Biomedical Electronics:  Check out a 4-week long course being offered at NWTC for this degree!  Tuesday nights during March-April.  Sign up link is available by emailing Liz at [email protected], or stop into room 219 to ask for the link.
This is a hands-on, free college introductory course! 

Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors interested in touring Fox Valley Technical College and St. Norbert College, please stop into room 219. (Career Center) or email Liz at [email protected] to ask about signing up.  The tours will take place on March 7th, from 8 am to 3 pm.

Juniors and Seniors, interested in working in law enforcement or related fields? If so, WALLECA is a 5 day camp that offers physical fitness training, classroom instruction and hands-on experiences. The 2024 academy will be July 29- August 2 at the Wisconsin State Patrol Training Academy at Fort McCoy.  It is totally free to the cadets and you stay in the dorms at the academy, all meals and supplies are furnished. The application process is now open until March 31.  The application must be printed out, completed to include all required signatures. It can be mailed or emailed to the academy.  (Ms. Liz in room 219 can help with this, please stop by)  Students that have any questions about the program can stop in or email [email protected].
