School nurses are no longer able to provide Tylenol and/or Ibuprofen to students unless the OTC (over the counter) medication form is signed by a parent/guardian. This means we are no longer able to call you and get verbal consent over the phone or via text message.

When this form is signed the school nurse is able to administer up to 5 separate doses of Tylenol/Ibuprofen for the school year. Once the student has reached 5 doses administered the parent/guardian will have to provide a bottle to keep at school for their student.

If you did the annual updates on the parent portal this year, you were prompted to fill this form out electronically. If you did not do your annual updates on the parent portal you can sign the paper copy and return to school. This new policy does not change our current policy on parent provided medications for school.

Youth Apprenticeship

Youth Apprenticeship (YA) is a work-based learning experience for high school juniors and seniors. There are 16 career clusters that students can participate in, ranging from Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources, Architecture & Construction, Manufacturing, Transportation to Health Science, Finance, STEM, and IT.

Students in Mrs. VanDeWalle's IB English Language & Literature class participated in mock trials in which they put Antigone on trial, complete with a bailiff and a judge. She was being tried for treason against Thebes for trying to bury her dead brother. This activity was part of their lessons around the Greek tragedy Antigone, written by Sophocles.

Students in Ms. Matz's class participated in Fitness Testing and worked in teams to track their progress.

Culinary students show off their baked treats, which they made during class.

The Winter Choir & Orchestra Concert was held in mid-December.

On December 11th, various juniors and seniors at West had the opportunity to tour UW Eau Claire and UW Stout on the western side of the state!  Campus tours with a view a dorm room, dining at UW Eau Claire and learning more about the academic offerings were part of each tour.  Our UW schools each offer different experiences for students and the more we learn about them, the more informed college decisions can be.

Oral Health Partnership visits schools--including West High School--to provide essential dental services to students who qualify. Services include exams, x-rays, cleanings and other key care. Students may request a school locker using the Google Form shared in announcements. Student lockers are then assigned, and students can view their locker in Student Portal (Infinite Campus).  Any locker with a combination listed as 00-00-00 does not have a built-in lock, but students can get a free lock from the Main Office to use on their locker.
If there are any questions about lockers, please contact Student Services.

Students are required to show their student ID upon entering the building, and will use their ID throughout their day to check into classes, get a pass and more. If a student loses or breaks their ID, they will need to purchase a new ID for $5 in the Main Office. 

Any student who has not yet received an ID should visit the Main Office to get an ID.

Service hours may include volunteering in the community, helping with things like clean up, set up, child care, etc. Many events students assist with at school may also be considered volunteer hours. Graduating students who earn 100 or more services hours will receive special recognition by wearing a special cord and/or medallion, which is noted in the ceremony program.

In order to receive recognition for service hours, each activity needs to be reported using a blue service sheet form, which can be picked up from Career Center (room 117), Student Services or the Main Office during the school day.

Any student parking on school grounds must have a valid parking pass. Parking pass applications can be picked up and returned to the Main Office. The fee for a Parking Pass is $75 per year. Students with a parking pass may park in the east-side lot (closest to the Gym and Door 9) in the white stalls only.

The following rules apply to parking at West High School. Students who violate these rules may receive a ticket from city parking:

• No parking in the west-side lot near the main entrance
• No parking in yellow stalls (there are plenty of white stalls in the east-side lot)
• No parking without a current parking pass displayed from the rearview mirror and visible from outside
• No parking in multiple spots or blocking walkways

Families can access the school breakfast, lunch, and after-school dinner menu on NutriSlice!

Students at West High School receive breakfast, lunch and dinner at no cost--they just need to come pick it up from the cafeteria!

Students in high schools have a number of entrees to choose from each day. For lunch: The homestyle line option changes each day (view on NutriSlice menu website on the calendar). Other daily options include (listed below the calendar on NutriSlice): taco fiesta line, sub deli line, pizza, hot sandwiches (including veggie burgers), rotating specialty salads and grab & go boxes, fruit, yogurt, and granola parfaits, and a full salad bar. If a student chooses to have food delivered to them from an outside location, they are only permitted to pick up deliveries from Door 9, and only during their lunch period.

Monday, September 22 through the End of the School Year

All Students:

• Students are required to use a clear backpack or tote bag while in the school building. If a student arrives with a non-clear backpack, they will be able to take necessary materials with them. Students’ non-clear backpacks will be tagged with the student’s name and placed in a locked room, to be picked up at the end of the day from the Main Office.  West High School is not responsible for lost or misplaced non-clear bags. 
• If a student does not have a clear backpack/tote, they must enter through the Main Entrance, Door 1 (not the Cafeteria). 

Co-Curricular Activities:

• Students who participate in co-curricular activities are permitted to carry non-transparent bags to store items pertaining to those particular activities (i.e. band, athletics, theatre arts, etc.). 

• All athletic equipment bags should be taken to the Main Entrance where they will be tagged with the student’s name and placed in a locked room to be picked up at the end of the day (by 3:15p) from the Thune Center.  All bags are subject to be searched at any point.
• If a student is coming to school with their instrument, these instruments and cases will be taken and stored in the lockers located inside or near the band/orchestra/choir room for the duration of the day. These materials will only be accessible during class time or for rehearsals after school. All instruments are subject to be searched at any point.

Student Attendance at Athletic Events

Students may NOT attend events if they have:

• OSS (out of school suspension) the day of event
• Unexcused absences the day of the event

All absences must be excused by 3rd hour.
An attendance scanner will be used at event entrance. If the scanner gives an alert that a student may not attend, they will need to leave the event. We will not be checking for eligibility ahead of time or contacting parents prior to events.
